#9. Article Read - Digital rights group says Google invades student privacy

Google is being accused of collecting information about student's online activity for non-educational purposes. This is mostly through their Chromebook computers that the students are using. The Electronic Frontier Foundation is calling of the Federal Trade Commission to investigate Google to see if they really are using the information gained for non-educational uses. According to the article, the FTC said that Google made a loophole that overshadowed online activities with an advertising network using the Safari browser without the user's consent.

I am interested in finding out if Google did use the data collected from their Chromebooks for advertising uses. However, I am a little distressed that people did not expect Google to have more access to their own product (Chromebooks) than other computer brands. I do understand the foundation's feelings that companies should not exploit a person's information for their own greedy profit. I hope that Google is trying to gain information about their computer users to create an evaluation to later give a better online service towards their consumers.
